The Story So Far... Part 1

This will be the first of an ongoing series of articles that will cover my journey to Krosmaster Worlds 2016.

My adventure did not start the way most exciting adventures do. I was not bitten by a radioactive spider. A powerful wizard did not mark my front door with a treasure-hunting, home-reclaiming Dwarven meet up symbol. I did not find a strange message from a captured princess in the memory banks of a trash can-esque hooting and whirring robot. My story begins with a twitch.tv stream.

The Journey of Jeric and his quest for the Dark Crystal

I was lucky enough to participate in the Texas Regional Championships at Quakecon 2015 in Dallas
over the weekend of July 25th. This would be my first regional tournament ever and I was a little nervous to say the least. So I want to thank those folks who stayed up late with me trying to talk me off the ledge as we got closer to the event.

As one part experiment, and one part outreach to the other Texas fans, I decided to host the first (of what I hope to be several) DFW Krosmaster online tournaments. You'll find the list of players, their teams and a link to the online bracket after the break.

Growing Pains and How to Power Through

In anything you do in life you find yourself hitting certain plateaus along the way where you feel stuck and not making any progress. Since I started playing Krosmaster, I’ve always played a very aggressive play style with heavy hitters and more tanky characters. I decided that I needed to take a break and branch out to other play styles and see what I could learn from them.  It’s important to have goals when you play a game so you always have something to strive towards.  In addition to trying to new things out, I wanted to work on closing out games. There are many times that I create a strong advantage for myself only to stumble in the later and more impactful rounds of a tournament. I wanted to practice closing those games out early so the games to save some mental horse power for the later games and committing my plays to memory to the point they are fluid and natural.

Make your own 3D Map.

When Japanime announced the 3D Resin Board, I immediately cried for I did not have $400 for it and started concocting a plan to build my own.

Goofy Hats and Portals: The Rise of the Eliatropes

I was first introduced to Eliatropes about a week after picking up the game, when R.Nav was training for US nationals and put down his team of teleporters. At the time I was still very new to the game and was too smitten with a certain bearded Foggernaut Boss to give the Eliatropes the proper time and consideration they deserved, and to be honest, I still didn’t until nearly 6 months later.

Krosmaster on April 11th, International Tabletop Day!

Japanime Games is a sponsor of International Tabletop Day, and as a result, there will be Krosmaster Demo events nationwide. For the DFW area, I'll be hosting a Tabletop Day Kroztour, that will hit three stores in the DFW area to reach out to players new & old. I'll have demos of both Krosmaster and Junior set up, as well as space for full games as well.

The Big Picture: Worlds 2015

The weekend of March 20th and 21st brought together 25 players presenting five different countries to battle for the title of the first ever Krosmaster Arena World Champion. The format of the event was a round robin style group stage where the lowest scoring member of each group would exit the event and then move on to a standard double elimination tournament. The event was broadcast live over Twitch.TV in English for the entire world to see. The Videos are currently available as previous broadcasts on Twitch, but should be posted to YouTube shortly after the writing of this article.

Cats vs Iops: The Eternal Struggle

The game this week was a little different than normal. I recently came to the conclusion that I have purchased too many little plastic people and that for me to be able to bring everything I want to for game night, I would need to reorganize my bag. One important note that you, the trusty reader, should take from this is make sure you repack your character cards after a hearty reorganizing. It really sucks not having them, because then you end up buying a foil set of season 1 cards and last minute scraping a team together.

The Big Picture: Looking back at the 2014 Spanish Nationals

Metagame or “meta” for short is one of those words you will probably encounter while playing any game with a competitive component to it. It’s also a word that has several meanings within any game. In most cases it refers to a strong team or strategy on either a local, national, or global level.

Discussing the meta is often a mechanism to either stagnate or stimulate growth in a community. In some cases people look at event results and take them as the absolute final judgment of what teams or strategies are good or bad, which can stifle creativity. At Lock Check we believe that while some teams are powerful, nothing is unbeatable against solid play and critical thinking and with that we often find ourselves experimenting with more unorthodox pairings. We’re not Hipsters, we’re Pioneers! With that being said I’d like to look at the Spanish National championships that have happened recently.

Make Some Dark Hero Summons

I love the figures from the Dark Heroes expansion.  So much so that I couldn’t wait to play them with their summoned units, so I had to make my own.  First I’ll start with the easier sculpts and move on to the more advanced forms.

Krosmaster Storage

Storage.  While not a complete sentence is a complete and complex idea that can be a major factor in our favorite game du jour: Krosmaster.  There are many things that need to be considered when trying to store all of these wonderfully painted and produced miniatures, not the least of which include: price, mobility, portability, dimensions of the models, and model safety.  With this, my debut post, I would like to talk about what I went through and, more importantly, what came out of my own deliberations on the subject.

Krosmaster Arena: Season 3 is coming soon, and the spoilers for the new figures are being leaked out at a steady pace by Ankama.

In this article, we take a look at the upcoming Piwate-class figures, and how they just might change things up.

The discussion is joined by R.Nav, William, Jeric, Gabe & Billy.

Bamboo Fury! Bringing the Pandawas to the Party

My name is Jeric and I’m addicted to pandas.
When it comes to those cute black and white members of the bear family, I can’t help myself. I love eating Panda Express while playing my Pandaren Shaman, Hunter, Mage, Monk, and Priest! Well, not really at the same time because I wouldn’t want any of it to fall on my keyboard and I can only log one in at a time, but you get the idea. I love Pandas and when the Pandawa started popping up in Krosmaster, I was ready for the adventure.

On Saturday January 17th, I was lucky enough to have a Dark Heroes Release event in our area at Chronicles Games and Comics. Being a weekend filled with a metric ton of other game release events to attend, we pulled in 6 players and generated a slew of interested viewers as we battled for the coveted mount.

Behind the Kamas: Jeric

“You can’t know where you are going until you know where you have been” is an old adage that creates an appropriate topic for my first contribution to this blog.  This article will cover a little bit about my gaming history and what brought me into the world of Krosmaster.

It's Alive! (Sort of)

Welcome to the soft-launch of LOCK CHECK, a blog about everything Krosmaster from the DFW Krosmaster community.

I'm Randy, the webtofu around here and volunteer at many Krosmaster events in the DFW area. If you've attended a convention, demo day, or tournament in the DFW area there's a pretty decent chance we've met!
